If you have worked at a veterinary practice long enough, it’s likely that at some point, you’ve taken a prescription refill call where the pet owner has asked, “Do you deliver?”. Many veterinary practices have offered to mail a prescription to a client or even FedEx something overnight. I know of at least one practice where years ago, the owner’s wife would load up their family station wagon and drive around town, dropping off prescription refills to their clients.

Today, there is a better solution. With our latest product offering, VetShipRx, practices can hand prescription refills, E-collars, food, or any other product to a DoorDash driver and have it delivered to their client’s homes in about an hour.

It’s fast, incredibly convenient, and gives your practice an edge over your competitors and the big online retailers trying to lure your clients away. Here are the most common questions we get from practices interested in offering DoorDash delivery to their clients.

Is DoorDash available for my practice?

DoorDash is available to 90% of US households. In addition, they partner with major retail chains such as Starbucks. Our team can let you know if your practice has coverage; if it doesn’t, we will work with DoorDash directly to get you covered.

How often do the drivers come?

With our VetShipRx order dashboard, you control when DoorDash is contacted about a delivery. Mark an order as “Ready for Delivery,” and we will reach out behind the scenes to make a pickup. You can even batch multiple orders together to pick them up simultaneously.

Is it safe to hand products over to a DoorDash driver?

It’s 100% safe. Our agreement with DoorDash ensures only top-rated drivers will work with practices. In addition, DoorDash provides insurance for the total value of all orders. Finally, in the case of an accident, DoorDash will fully refund you and your client.

Will DoorDash deliver controlled substances?

No, DoorDash does not deliver any controlled substances. These orders are best left for pickup or at your online pharmacy. VetShipRx does not offer the option to deliver products designated as controlled substances.

How much does a delivery cost?

Delivery fees range from $9.00 to $20.00 based on the pet owner’s distance from your practice. The delivery fee is passed on to customers directly. Some practices subsidize delivery in part or whole to increase sales and compete with online retailers.

How long does it take to deliver?

When you mark the order “Ready for Delivery,” it typically arrives at the pet owner’s home in about an hour.

How big of an order can DoorDash deliver?

There is no limit to the number of items in an order, and the driver can deliver packages up to 50 lbs.

What if I have an online pharmacy?

An online pharmacy is still an excellent option for most practices and clients who choose to use it. However, DoorDash delivery provides an additional level of convenience for your clients as well as boosts sales for your in-house pharmacy.

Are you ready to start offering your clients same-day delivery?

Adding the convenience of same-day delivery with DoorDash has increased compliance, boosted in-house pharmacy sales, and delighted customers in veterinary practices across the country. At VitusVet, we know how to get your practice set up and ready to deliver quickly and easily with a simple setup and onboarding process.
