T aking your pet for their annual exam is one of the most important ways you can make sure your pet stays healthy. While many pet owners make sure that their pet receives the necessary vaccines, there are plenty of diseases that animals can get that vaccines don’t cover. November is both National Pet Cancer Awareness Month and National Pet Diabetes Month. Cancer and kidney disease are the leading disease-related causes of death for both domestic cats and dogs in the United States, while diabetes can be fatal if left untreated.
Although vaccines for these diseases don’t exist, they are more likely to be caught early with routine pet care. To shed some light on the importance of preventative care and pet wellness exams, our CEO, Dr. Mark Olcott, MBA, shares his thoughts on how you can work with your veterinarian to help keep your pet happy and healthy.
